I keep it interesting by putting the toy on different things—- the video was taken on my bathroom floor; I also put it in the tub sometimes where there are less obstacles, in a box, or on the tracks of the rolling ball tower toy (it pushes the ball around as it moves). Just now I let it walk through a paper towel roll and Maya was amused.
I use it in the kitchen sometimes but it tends to get caught under things like the stove (I had to completely move the stove once to get the toy out), the dishwasher, fridge, etc. You can block them easily if you want to though. Maya has been considerate and tries to pounce on the hexbug when it looks like it’s about to get stuck somewhere. She does it in the attached video before it gets wedged between the sink cabinet and the wall.
An added bonus is that the feather on the end lets you know if your floor needs to be cleaned since it picks up dirt and dust haha.
Note that it definitely doesn’t work on carpet... maybe a little bit if it’s on its back, but hardly. A couple times Maya took off with it when it was still on and it was mostly quiet since it was on the carpet, so the battery ran down. Overall the battery lasts a decent time though.
One more thing- when I first used this toy its trajectory was large— it made rather big circles. Each time I replaced the battery its patterns changed a bit, and now its circles are smaller. I prefer them smaller because it gets stuck under or next to stuff less that way, but one time it was making super tight little circles which was boring. I took the battery out, reinserted it, and it was better.
Wish we could pick our own color!
