518 customers mention384 positive134 negative

Customers like the quality of the pet supplies. They say it's a very nice fountain, with an ingenious design. The bowl is a simpler design, with less parts to clean. It holds quite a bit of water, and has just a faint trickling water sound on the lowest flow. It's tip proof and has a unibody design that never leaks. Customers also say that their pets' kidney values look great after using the fountain.

"...Looks fine, works fine, I can't really say more because my cat is still getting used to it. I will update later...." Read more

"...Good solid and simple design...." Read more

"...and have been tumbled for weeks they are polished, smooth, and shiny; with no roughness, but they do have irregularity and diversity...." Read more

365 customers mention308 positive57 negative

Customers find the pet supplies very easy to assemble and use. They mention that the instructions are surprisingly easy to understand. The reservoir is easy to attach and it takes no time at all to put together. Customers also say that it's extremely convenient and saves them time on day-to-day work.

"...The reservoir keeps it full for 2-3 days and while it is not overly difficult to use, I don't care for the design...." Read more

"...Assembly is very easy and the instructions surprisingly easy to understand. Assembling the unit took less than 2 minutes...." Read more

"...The instructions are fairly complete. The entire process should take about 5 minutes once you get the hang of it...." Read more

1,872 customers mention638 positive1,234 negative

Customers are mixed about the noise of the pet supplies. Some mention that the unit itself is very quiet, while others say that the vibrations on a hard surface makes the pump very loud. The loud sound is caused by the motor vibrating against the sides of the fountain.

"...The machine is noisy ONLY when the water level is too low. The fountain is quiet when the water reaches up to about 1/2 inch from the rim...." Read more

"...that would disturb their cats, but with the unit I got it was pretty much quiet. The trickling water made more noise then the pump...." Read more

"...The new Original Fountain is a lot noisier than our first one. Can't figure why. The motor is louder and vibrates more. Cats don't seem to care...." Read more

1,234 customers mention690 positive544 negative

Customers are mixed about the messiness of the pet supplies. Some mention that it disassembles easily to clean, while others say that it's not constructed for convenient cleaning. The reservoir itself needs to be cleaned, and the fountain needs to disassemble and thoroughly washed. The water starts getting gross after around 12 days.

"...The filter is easy to remove, run under the sink to clean and replace. The trap in the bowl is easy to clear with fingers...." Read more

"...Also, regular cleaning maintenance is needed. One of my cats is a long hair Maine Coon-ish type cat...." Read more

"...very small nooks and crannies that could get slimy, it seems very easy to clean...." Read more

"...-Pump tube to get the water to the top is really hard to clean! I've been using a baby bottle brush kit, which works decently...." Read more

489 customers mention231 positive258 negative

Customers are mixed about the durability of the pet supplies. Some mention it seems sturdy, is made pretty good, and lasts a long time for the price. However, others say that it broke down after only a three or four months. The bowl breaks down easily, and the adjustment tab looks like a flimsy piece of black plastic. Cleaning is annoying and the fountains break down after a longer period of use.

"...the gasket at first, but then we found that the plastic housing around the gasket was cracked. We really liked this model. It is easy to maintain...." Read more

"...The supplied filter looks to be better quality...." Read more

"...That coating will wear off and is toxic...." Read more

"...They last a long time for the price when operated properly!Bad news: The motor is really super loud when the water runs low...." Read more

464 customers mention317 positive147 negative

Customers are mixed about the value of the pet supplies. Some mention that it's good for what it cost, the filters are relatively inexpensive to buy, and it'll help them cut back on vet bills. However, others say that it cost too much money for a mediocre product, the new filters are somewhat high in price, and the pump looks and feels much cheaper.

"...This fountain is hefty and the size of the rim makes it pretty much impossible for him to move it with his little mouth...." Read more

"...He really seems to like it. It's definitely helped us cut back on vet bills... though I still take him often, he's been hospitalized once for UTI-..." Read more

"...Was not worth the savings for the hassel. The filter clogs up twice as fast, water doesn't stay as fresh, water does not flow as well...." Read more

"...The filters are not that expensive as far as filters go and unit will still function without a filter for people who do not wish to use or cannot..." Read more

400 customers mention248 positive152 negative

Customers have mixed opinions about the water flow of the pet supplies. Some mention that it ensures proper hydration, and their pets are drinking more water. They also feel that the water is aerated more thoroughly and continuously, and that it keeps the water contained very well. However, others say that the running water isn't adequate enough aeration to keep the water sitting in the reservoir, and the water evaporates faster.

"...While the reservoir is much easier to fill, as it has a flat top so it sits level, like a cup when filling it, I find the reservoir for the Platinum..." Read more

"...-The water evaporates faster...." Read more

"...I also really like the size of the bowl/basin area. It keeps the water contained very well and we've had no issues with splashes...." Read more

"...both cats started curiously circling in and started drinking without fear almost immediately...." Read more

Fresh filtered water for your pets. A little more work for you, but probably worth it.

Fresh filtered water for your pets. A little more work for you, but probably worth it.
This is the original Drinkwell 50 oz. fountain. Unit consists of a bowl (that can be used by pets whether or not power is applied,) and upper housing that holds the charcoal filter and dispenses the fountain flow, lid, filter (1 supplied) and pump with AC adapter. When operating, the pump should always be submersed. If operated dry, damage may occur. When set up and operating, the water is pumped into the housing from the intake in the bowl and up to the spout, a few inches above the splash ramp and then back into the bowl. It's a low voltage (12V) pump and there's no chance of shock hazard. We have 4 cats and 2 small dogs. We've only had the fountain one week. All of the animals drink regularly from it. One of our cats was obsessed with drinking from the kitchen faucet. She has now taken to drinking from the fountain, so hopefully this will keep her off the counter. The other pets just lap up the water in the bowl. I suspect that it tastes better since the water constantly passes through the filter. With only a 50 oz. capacity, we keep it topped off a couple of times a day. At our rate of usage, I wouldn't expect the supply to last much over a day before running dry. The pets seem to like the fresher tasting water now that is constantly being filtered. (If I were sharing a water glass with 5 others, I'd at least want it filtered too.)The unit does not have any rubber feet and sitting on the hard floor makes a vibrating sound. I placed a rubber mat (actually a large mouse pad flipped over) underneath and that eliminates the sound. The unit itself is very quiet, but the vibrations on a hard surface can cause quite a racket unless there is some padding. According to the manual, it uses 2W of electricity. I metered it and found it uses 6W --not bad for a small motor that runs continuously.Cleaning. The manual recommends cleaning once a week. This is something that you should do with your pet's water bowl anyway, but this is a little more complicated than a simple bowl. A DC plug is in the middle of the cord that lets you disconnect the power without messing with the AC adapter. That makes it easier to take the unit over to the sink for cleaning. The housing and bowl can be easily rinsed off. The manual also recommends cleaning the pump every 2 weeks. This is a little bit of a chore. The pump can be pried out (it's on suction cups in the basin) and squeezed open. The squeeze points are not marked but once you get the hang of it, you should have no trouble taking it apart. Take the faceplate and intake plate off, remove the impeller and rinse thoroughly. The instructions are fairly complete. The entire process should take about 5 minutes once you get the hang of it.I suspect that most of the complaints regarding this are when the owners (1) let the unit run dry, (2) don't put padding under the unit to reduce vibration or (3) don't regularly clean the unit.My only issue is with the constant need to replace the filter. The basic design seems to indicate that the system could be used without the filter without harming it. I have thought about just filling the bowl with filtered water and forgetting the charcoal filter, but the pets seem to like the water more with it constantly filtered. Yes, it is more expensive and a little more work keeping it clean, but the little critters seem to love it.
